Cozumel Pictures: San Gervasio

San Gervasio in Cozumel

Although vestiges of ancient Maya culture are visible throughout Cozumel, one of the areas best known for its many well-preserved structures is the pre-Hispanic settlement of San Gervasio. San Gervasio and its centuries-old structures date from the Early Classic Period (A.D. 300 600) to the Late Post- Classical Period (A.D. 1250 1500). Most of the structures were used as altars and shrines and for gatherings of government officials.
